Land of the Lost

The classroom, if not properly tamed, is home to the wilds. Literally. Don’t you agree? In this case you also have to remember though that you are dealing with people. Young people to be exact, who are still seeking lost identities and principles.

I’m sure that most of you were able to experience different teachers and instructors, and found them either amusing, boring, despicable, lovable, horrible, or just plain “she/he’s a teacher, I don’t think he/she is human.”

What do you think made those teachers and instructors the way they are to you? Can you remember some of them who you would like to recall and tell us a story about it? What kind of strategies did he/she use? What didn’t he/she use?

Nope, sorry. No showbiz today.

yes,of course ive encountered different instructors with different behaviors.Honestly, some are boring.I think they have to change thier teachimg strategies.Instead of talking the whole class by himself, encourage the students to participate or react the discussions.Hope they will use any device that can make the class more interesting. But,i admire those teachers who are lively, easy to approach and always wearing his or her smile.

The teacher doesn't really know how to impart the things he/she have learned that's why he/she doesn't know how to do the very simple way for students to go with the wind...
They must at least use a very significant strategy or instructional model in facilitating learning experience...
Some of my past instructors don't really good in their teaching...

I guess those teachers became what they are now based on their experience from the past. When I was in High school, whenever I saw teachers who taught the class well, I thought "If I become a teacher someday, I want to teach the class just like he/she did." I sometimes saw their weaknesses and thought "If I become a teacher someday, such actions should be avoided."
I remember when my Algebra teacher was singing in front of the class in order to make us understand the equation. It wasn't just any song. In that exact moment, he somehow managed to make some tunes and rhythms that can help students understand better. Everyone in class was amazed and was awaken from their sleep (because the way I look at it, Algebra makes the students fall asleep most of the time...)
I remember in my Physics class, we had to make paper airplanes. The objective was to make a paper airplane that can travel far. We all had to participate in making the paper airplane. The idea of every individual being involved in the activiy was good, but the result wasn't so good. Why? The students were too busy making fancy paper airplanes and they forgot the fact that they are suppose to make a paper airplane that can travel far, and not a fancy good-looking airplane. When it was time for us to test the paper airplane, most of them fell on the ground too soon. Too soon for me to even believe it. Somehow, at that time, it wasn't much of a paper airplane anymore. What's the use if they can't really fly? Maybe the teacher had to remind the students frequently on the objectives of that activity. Everyone had fun, but in the end, there were disappointments. I saw some students' expression changing ever so quickly when they had the test flight.
I believe that teaching strategies should be made to be successful from the beginning to the end.

let me think about this....yes, there is a teacher whom i can remember until now. she was my elementary teacher.her voice was loud and with non expression, the lesson always made me sleeping(maybe because i was young, young kid always needs sleep~).and she gave a lot assignments to students.the problem was i slept during the class time~ so sometimes i couldn't submit assignment. she never asked me the reason, just called my father and reported me~~ and sometimes she used "force" to me..yes, i had the experience..very ~~painful, shame, and terrible~~~horrible teacher~~~~how she became that kind of teacher?! maybe her teacher taught her like that~~ what strategies she did use? Strength, force or might??kkk,im not sure~~~but i know she lack love, patience, ardour of work.i will never be a teacher like her~~kk~~whatever, still hope that God bless her and her family~~~ you know that not her fault,it was her teacher's fault~~~kk...joking~~~
im sorry~i forgot my pastword~~

Not all the teahers are perfect! teachers also learned with their experinces. Ive meet different teachers in a class some of them are too good, some are terror, and some of them are pretending.....to be good....well, maybe be they are driven by many experiences that's why they behave different bahaviors while in classroom. Some of the teachers remain with their standard they are just limiting the lerners need.

HOw do i say??? of coz had losts of experience with different teachers.... Some can be reali boring, some can be reali interesting.... and some can be really scary...
But then if you ask why are they like that... it can be coz of their past experiences or maybe coz of the teachers they had in the past....
As my experience .. i'm not saying this coz my teacher is bad or anything.. i juz would like her to revise her teaching method or something like that.... in highschool its in chemistery clz... we juz had limited experiment and also for the formula mostly juz memorize and did nt' understand how it reali worked.. the teacher told us juz to memorize but ddint' explain it clearly.. so when in exams,, when she gave equations didn't know how to do even though i memorize the formula.... didnt' know how to solve it .. but then my health teacher she's so kind and patient and understanding.. if we can't understand she will go over again and again.. and if sometimes we can't get anymore she studies with us .. she gives us free tutoring in her house.. so we pass her subject with flying colors... i admire her so much coz she's so organized , patient...etc... so maybe in this two teachers the method or strategies they're using cannot be that different coz they are sisters but then the way they delivering is totally different..so sometimes we can't juz blame the method ... maybe something wrong with the delivery style also.....but those things come from how they were taught when they were students....

Yes, it is true that there are some teachers or instructor who conduct boring discussion. And so, the students feel sleepy. They can't make the classroom alive. Like what I have experienced last semester. I have instructor who just keep talking in the whole period. So, instead of listening to him some are make their own discussion. The lessons that he discuss did't enter in our mind. What a intructor is he? I think he want the life of the student become miserable.
Well..I admire those teachers who know many techniques and method in teaching. I love who inspire students to study hard. I hope to see many teachers who is the good model to the future teachers like us...

ohh..well..teachers have different strategies in teaching the lesson..when i was in elementary years, my teachers were really good..i dont have problem with themmin my HS days,, i think only history subjects and economics were not taught that well..
What makes them so boring or what makes students dislike teachers are sometimes they were expecting too much from students but theyre not teaching the subject well they dont either know the subject matter they are teaching or sometimes it is due to old age of teachers and some are not that good talaga.. there aer so many factors why we dont like their teaching style, but lets not blame them in other way..the reason could also be teaching is not their career choice..
foR me, it is base to base cases..

If i have to think all of the teachers who taught me then i will need to write like for aday.. :)..
but i will just tell one of those...
It was when i was in Grade 12..There is one teacher..Right after she got to the class she started discussing about the lesson. She told the objectives, but no motivation. The way she taught was so bored to all of us.. So we got low score in her subject. :)
She taught us just the way she was leanred when she was a student. Some of the teachers are really good and know how to teach but some teachers are so genius but dont really know how to teach..
SO i guess just because they were taught by their teachers..
As we, students we are learning right now we really need to be careful.. we need to learn the good things from our teachers and avoid learning bad things from our teachers...

Yes, if teachers don't know what to do first, next, etc. the educative process won't have a good and effective result. Since learners should be the center of educative process, they must provided a good and significant foundations for them to grow wholistically.
My teacher in elementary was very strict to us yet very interesting when she teach us the subject matter. That's the time when I learn to love English language.
When I was a sixth grader, my teacher in Arts don't even give us motivation to improve our drawings...my desire to learn the subject seems ignored, so, maybe that's why, I'm suffering now from Artsphobia...hehehehehe...
Yet most of my elementary teachers were good enough in their teaching...

Indeed if a teacher is not effective and does not use proper approaches his/ her class will be total chaos!

I had teacher when i was in second year high school, she was a new teacher for social studies.
We (my classmates) did not like her because she was very poor in english, just lecture all the time and was not pleasing to look at.

Let's admitt it, even as teachers...proper attire still matter.
A teacher must know how to carry him/herself in a manner wherein the students will be able to have respect for him/her. That's what the teacher lacked, who would want to look much more listen to a teacher that looked like he/she just came out of bed?right?

Another thing she lacked was strategic plans in making her class more intersting, active and interactive. All she did was LECTURE then bookworks. There was no healthy and creative interaction between the teacher and the students even among the students.

I believe that teachers have different orientations and strategies in teaching. But these hindrances should not hinder the students to learn. Yes, I have many experiences of having different types of teachers. And sometimes it is very annoying that you go out in class without learning anything.Teachers should consider the feelings of their students toward them. Students also want to be recognized and feel that they are important. They want to explore things in order for them to learn. Teachers should realize that they are their students' second parents and no matter what happens they are responsible to them.It is very important to know the needs and the interests of their students that would someday help them to be a better person.

Yes your right Sir! Every teacher has different way of teaching and communicating with the students. I still remember when I was in High School, my English teacher keeps on reprimanding us until the end of the period , no discussion, no lesson, no quiz. See? And another problem with her is the use of the same strategy over and over again. But I'm happy to say that I also experienced to be with teachers who are really concerned about their way of teaching and about the learning of the students to the point of giving remedial classes for those students who are not learning well.
Some of the teachers although they are intelligent seems to be a mediocre teacher due to their inefficiency in teaching because teaching effectiveness really matters.

yes you're right that the classroom or school is a home wilds. yes, i remember one. when i was in grade 6,my adviser was very angry with some of my classmates, when my name came out in her mouth, she remembered that i did not pass yet my form 137. so she got angry with me. all her angry passed on me that i did not spoke out,she told that it was my mistakes and so on..it so hurt to me because some of my classmates laughing at my back. so i decided to stop my schooling but my mother did not agree(i did not told her kc the reason why)so my mother got angry to me and she make "bugbog" me. after 1 week of absent, my adviser knew what happened to me and she asked for my forgiveness in front of our principal...so i think it was because of irritation and very noisy classroom.. i didn't remember na her strategy eh...

Yes, I've encounter a lot of teachers, specially when am in high school, she/he dont know his subject mattter, and if you ask question, he ignored it, very authoritative, some are boring, specially social studies, they did'nt think the technique,so that the student will not get bored, some of my teachers they are using deductive and inductive method.I think they have to change their teaching strategies,so that the student will have the interest to study.

Teachers are also normal human beings; they have their own characteristics and personalities. Different styles and methods of teaching and I think they all get it from their own experiences. I remember one time when its my first time going to class, of course a I am grade 1 that time. I was totally afraid to my teacher when she was getting angry so what I did the next and the following days of my classes was that I didn’t go to my assigned room anymore and just stay in the Balimbing tree in our school until end of class and pretend to my parents that I’m going to school, so when my parents found out, they just decided to stop me from schooling that time and just enroll me the next school year. ^_^ so for teachers out there, please try to avoid getting angry to your students because I think students can’t learn very well and I think they can’t appreciate the lesson if they are afraid. So please be kind to your students ok? ^^

teacher have different mind they are not perfect they only do what they think is right of course they know different method but maybe they choose the appropriate for the topic they discuss.
